Streamlining and qualification to more than 20 refrigerants support HVACR business
Danfoss released its new EVR v2 solenoid valves, having completed a wide series of improvements to the range of EVR valves throughout 2017. Reinforcements and rationalization now make the valves capable of accommodating higher refrigerant pressure and a broader range of applications while reducing the references, inventory, and servicing time. Decisive benefits for HVACR professionals include reduced applied and operating costs without compromising on reliability in all applications — from cold rooms to chillers and heat pumps.
Higher MOPD and new features compatible with modern refrigerants
The Danfoss EVR range of solenoid valves has a proven track record with more than 30 years of presence in a wide scope of air-conditioning and refrigeration applications such as walk-in cold rooms, display freezers and refrigerators, chillers, rooftop units, or close controls. Ten key features have been applied to enhance design robustness in more applications, increase functionality, and make service easier.
The valves will be progressively available at wholesalers through March 2018.
Danfoss EVR v2 valves are now optimized for manufacturers and installers in:
- Air conditioning:
The superior maximum OPD and minimum OPD (Opening Pressure Differential) deliver greater performance in high-temperature applications (221°F/105°C) and are optimized for variable refrigerant flow conditions or use with variable speed technology. Designed to withstand a higher Maximum Working Pressure (MWP) — up to 652 psi/45 bar, the same model of EVR solenoid valve is compatible with higher pressure refrigerants such as R-410A and is applicable to heat pumps or chillers running in ambient temperatures (up to 266°F/130°C for hot gas defrost and bypass) during periods of maximum loads. Qualifications are planned in 2018 for alternative mildly flammable and flammable refrigerants to be used in larger chillers. - Commercial refrigeration and food retail:
The reliable and versatile new EVR valve platform covers a wide range of functions, applications, and refrigerants. The platform is approved for lower-GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerants, including R-290 (propane). Tight solenoid closures safeguard the system and contribute to food safety and enhanced flow characteristics for high efficiency. In the liquid line, the tight shutoff prevents refrigerant flow back to the compression side. In the discharge line, the new Danfoss EVR v2 can withstand high temperatures and reduce system energy consumption compared to other defrost methods. Therefore, the valves are a high-value option for the very demanding cooling applications — such as ice-making machines, cold rooms, freezers, or ice cream machines, where the system is subjected to additional stress due to the rapid defrosting cycles and/or short hot gas injection cycles and where a suction line solenoid valve is required for defrosting.
EVR valves from Danfoss are ideal for applications such as food retail display cases since they enable service and maintenance to be carried out quickly, with no disruption to a store’s business hours. There is no need to de-solder the complete valve and put a new one into the system. Instead, the valve body can be left in place and the internal parts replaced as required in order to get the system up and running again quickly. Service kits are also available.
Fewer models, broader scope
The complexity reduction leads also to cost optimization in air-conditioning systems. For installers, the streamlined range means the right valve is more likely to be available, thus helping manage inventory and avoid logistics issues.
The changeover does not impact the coil program (SCN-SCT) and the EVU/L/CSV non-serviceable valves.
